Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation is typically recommended for our patients who have moderate to more severe dental fear or anxiety. Before your appointment, we’ll prescribe you a single pill that you can take to help get you relaxed. Typically, the medication is in the diazepam family, like Halcion or Valium. When you take it about an hour before your scheduled appointment time, by the time you arrive you’ll feel at-ease and much more comfortable than you typically would. Because the effects of the sedation can linger for several hours, it’s important to have a trusted friend or family member planning to drop you off and pick you up from the office.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous oxide is offered in-office due to the fast-acting effects. Our team will place a small mask over your nose that will allow you to breathe in a colorless, odorless gas mixed with oxygen. The effects take place near-immediately, which will cause a euphoric and calming wave to wash over you. After your service is complete, our team will have you breathe in oxygen to flush the effects of the sedation from your system, allowing you to carry on with the rest of your day as you normally would.
