What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses smooth and transparent plastic aligners customized to address your unique concerns instead of metal brackets and wires. The trays are crafted to place a gentle, strategic amount of pressure on your teeth to gradually shift them into their ideal positions until you reach your final goal. It’s required for you to wear your aligners for between 20 and 22 hours a day, only taking them out whenever you eat or drink anything besides water.

Every six to eight weeks, you’ll return to our office for a quick progress check and to get the next set of aligners in your treatment. It’s important that you remain diligent about practicing good at-home oral hygiene throughout your treatment to keep on track with your treatment timeline.

Who Can Invisalign Help?

The best way to tell whether Invisalign treatment is right for you is by coming to see us for a consultation. That way, we can review your dental history, examine your mouth, and take a look at diagnostic images (like X-rays) to determine if clear aligners are an option. If you want to learn more in the meantime, then keep reading; this next section is for you!

Crowded Teeth

Do your teeth crowd together to the point that they overlap? If so, you’re at an increased risk of several oral health problems, including tooth decay. For that reason, we strongly advise against taking the “wait and see” approach. Instead, schedule a consultation with us so we can discuss your smile goals and determine if Invisalign is the solution you’ve been looking for!

Gaps Between Teeth

Are there several small spaces throughout your mouth? Maybe there is just one large gap between your two front teeth. Either way, Invisalign has the potential to benefit both your self-esteem and your oral health. After all, the clear aligners can fix both small and noticeable gaps without drawing any unwanted attention to your smile in the process!

Overbite

Clear aligners are effective at improving the alignment of your teeth as well as the alignment of your bite. So, if you have an overbite, don’t just assume traditional braces are your only option. In many cases, we can achieve the same beautiful results with clear, custom-made aligners. To find out if you’re a candidate, take the next step: give us a call!

Underbite

For decades, traditional braces were the only option. Now, Invisalign is an option, too! If we determine that you’re a good candidate, then we may need to add additional orthodontic accessories to your treatment plan, like rubber bands and buttons. These help us correct more complex cases, but you don’t have to worry – they aren’t anywhere near as noticeable as traditional braces.

Crossbite

Do some of your upper teeth sit behind your lower ones? If so, you likely have a crossbite. Sometimes, this requires treatment from an orthodontist (we can provide you with a referral). Other times, we can move your bite into proper alignment with a custom series of clear aligners. The quickest way to find out is by coming in for a consultation, so don’t hesitate to give us a call if you’re interested.

Open Bite

When you bite down, is there a space between your upper and lower teeth? If so, you might have an open bite. Like the other orthodontic problems on this list, Invisalign may be an option. If that’s the case for you, then we will get to work creating your custom treatment plan. Before you know it, you’ll be on your way to a healthier and more confident smile!

Option 1 Pay Up Front for the Lowest Total Cost Possible

Option 3 Lowest Monthly Payments with CareCredit

If approved by CareCredit, patients can pay $174 a month with $0 down for 24 months and 0% interest! Their total cost under this plan would be $4,156.

Please note that financial options available through 3rd parties such as CareCredit must be paid in a timely fashion to avoid penalties.

Option 4 Use Our In-Office Payment Plan

Option 5 Have Your Insurance Payment Sent to Us Instead of You

Not all patients will be able to access this option. Please note that some insurances will only pay the patient directly, which makes this unavailable.

The Benefits of Invisalign

As a top orthodontic treatment choice, it’s no surprise that the benefits Invisalign has to offer make it stand out from all other options. Some of the benefits that you’ll be able to enjoy include:

  • Conveniently removable trays that allow you to eat whatever you want during your treatment.
  • Durable, clear plastic aligners that are discreet and easy to clean.
  • Easy oral hygiene maintenance due to the fact that you won’t have to navigate cleaning between brackets and wires.
  • Faster average treatment compared to traditional metal braces.

Invisalign FAQs

Can I Drink Coffee with Invisalign?

If you love starting your day with a cup of coffee, we have good news: you don’t need to give up this caffeinated beverage during your orthodontic treatment. You will, however, need to make a few adjustments to your routine, starting with always taking your aligners off beforehand (even with iced coffee!). It’s also important to use a straw to prevent stubborn stains from surfacing on your teeth and to brush your teeth about 20 minutes after you’re done to prevent tooth decay.

How Long Does Invisalign Take?

The average treatment timeline with Invisalign is only 12-18 months. Traditional braces, on the other hand, usually take 2-3 years. So, you can see why so many patients prefer clear aligners! If you are interested in this discreet and convenient orthodontic treatment, then we strongly recommend scheduling a consultation with us so we can determine if you’re a good candidate. If you are, then we can provide you with an estimate of your teeth-straightening journey and review what to do to avoid unwanted delays, like wearing your aligners for at least 20 hours a day, every day.

Can Invisalign Fix Overbites?

In addition to being able to correct mild to moderate overcrowding and spacing issues, Invisalign can correct mild to moderate bite problems. So, if your upper teeth jut out beyond the lower ones more than they should, don’t just assume traditional braces are your only treatment option!

Does Invisalign Hurt?

This is one of the most asked questions patients have for us about Invisalign. If you’ve been wondering this yourself, then you’ll be happy to hear the treatment process is considerably more comfortable because the aligners are crafted from smooth plastic. Not only that, but they gradually guide your teeth and bite into their ideal positions (unlike traditional braces, which require monthly adjustment appointments). To put it simply, you don’t have to worry – outside of the occasional soreness stemming from the movement of your teeth, the journey to your dream smile won’t hurt.

Will I Need Attachments?

Whether or not you need attachments will be something we decide at your consultation. Fortunately, even if you need 20+, you don’t have to stress about unwanted attention being drawn to your smile because they are nowhere near as noticeable as metal brackets. Plus, there’s a good chance that we’ll remove them as you progress through your treatment plan.

Is There Anyone Who Isn’t a Candidate for Invisalign?

Yes, there are some patients who aren’t good candidates for Invisalign in Shelby Township, including those with an active infection. If that’s the case for you, then we will need to provide the necessary restorative treatment (or treatments) first. That way, the final result is a smile that’s as healthy as it is beautiful!
